Maybe you're feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or angry, panicked or confused. A bereavement, relationship difficulties or trauma may have left you feeling like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Maybe nothing dramatic has happened at all, you just would like to feel happier in yourself, more content or confident, more able to trust and develop healthier relationships.
Perhaps you have tried talking to friends or family, they can be a great support, but sometimes they are part of the problem or entangled in it, maybe it feels like they haven't got the time to listen or that they just don't seem to understand.
Counselling is a way of exploring and talking about anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable in a safe confidential space and helping you to improve things.
So, how do you choose a therapist?
The most important factor in determining whether your therapy will be successful or not is your relationship with your counsellor and that is at the heart of the process whatever type of therapy you choose.
It can be very difficult to choose a therapist by looking at a list of qualifications on a screen, or a list of specific areas a therapist has experience in, therefore the best advice I would like to give would be to initially pick up the phone or send an email.
You may feel a little awkward or nervous at first, that's ok, completely normal, but its important that you feel able to trust your counsellor, and are comfortable and at ease talking with them.
Why choose me ?
I am a fully qualified experienced counsellor, and a registered member of the BACP (British association of counselling and psychotherapy).
My practice is predominantly person centred however I strongly believe that no one model of therapy fits all, therefore I will work with you and your needs using my experience and training to help and support you in the most appropriate way.
I have experience of working with many client issues and difficulties including : anxiety, sexual abuse, anger, bullying, body image, confidence, depression, domestic violence, self esteem, stress, family problems, general anxiety disorder gad, health concerns, jealousy, marital breakup,affairs and betrayals, obsessive disorders,ocd, panic disorder, post natal depression, stress, smoking, work issues and many more.
Sometimes people have one difficult area in their lives and sometimes many more.
How many sessions do I need?
Sometimes clients find that a few sessions are enough to help them address a specific problem, whilst others may wish to focus on deeper issues and therefore choose to work on a longer-term basis. Either way this is entirely your decision and can be discussed in more detail during the first session.

The best thing to do is to give me a call, text or email if preferred.
Once we have made initial contact we can then have a brief chat about your current situation and you will be able to decide whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you. If you feel that I am, we can then arrange a convenient appointment to meet.
I can offer face to face counselling for adults and young people.
My counselling room is in a quiet, discreet area in the centre of Shrewsbury, Shropshire and there is plenty of parking available a short stroll away. Both the train and bus station are in walking distance. With good road links and public transport, buses and train station, Shrewsbury is easily accessible from surrounding areas such as Powys and Telford and beyond. I am happy to send you a map if required.
Training, qualifications & experience
- BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice/ Health Visiting
- Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
- Level 3 Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- BACP Accredited Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
I have had experience as part of a therapeutic team who provided therapy for victims of sexual, emotional and physical abuse, rape and domestic violence.
I also have had experience with working with teenagers and young people with a variety of issues.
I have a current Enhanced DBS certificate and also hold full professional indemnity insurance.
I also attend regular Continued Professional Development (CPD) events and courses in line with the BACP requirements, to help support my professional practice.
