I am a BACP Senior Accredited Psychotherapist/ Counsellor with over 15 years experience.
I have always been passionate about helping others. The kind of therapy that I practice is dependent on the relationship that is created between myself and the client. I believe how we feel currently is key. The past has gone and whilst we can learn to feel differently about events from our past we cannot change them. The future is yet to happen. So exploring what is happening in the “here and now” can be most empowering.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have always been someone who is interested and cared about people. As a child I was eager to help people in need. I had some early challenges such as being unpopular at school which led me to wonder why people chose to do the things they did.
I worked in the Criminal Justice Service for over 6 years, initially in a female bail hostel and then as a probation officer, spending 3 years in a juvenile prison in Dublin, Ireland. It is here that I discovered the potential impact that a supportive one to one relationship could have on a person ready to make changes to their life.
I have a BSc. (Hons) Applied Psychology & Sociology from the University of Surrey. In 2004 I was awarded a first class Masters degree in Counselling from University College Cork. I am a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My membership number is 572426. I work within the BACP’s Ethical Code of Conduct.
- I am a Critical Incident Psychological First Aider, providing initial, on scene debriefing after traumatic incidents have taken place
- I work with clients who access counselling through their company’s employee assistance programme, using Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
- I have worked with refugees and asylum seekers at an Immigration Removal Centre
- I have worked in a Barnardos school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
