About me

Couple Counselling - Individual Counselling . I am a qualified therapist, with over a decade of experience working in the field of psychotherapy.I offer insight into how to understand the effects of anxiety and depression and how to manage the unpleasant symptoms that can often result in debilitating depression. Anxiety and depression are umbrella terms for describing a range of emotions that are related to painful life events. These might include: bereavement, relationship issues , divorce, job loss, physical/ mental health problems - this is not an exhaustive list but a summary of the factors that can affect your overall health and sense of well-being.

There are occasions when family or friends can no longer offer support - and you are left feeling completely isolated . The  GP surgery is always busy and you are left  with feelings of fear and anxiety - the cycle of uncertainty can impact on our thoughts and behaviours - resulting in a feeling of constant agitation-you may notice your anxiety elevates your depression - or you are plagued with   fatigued -  personal relationship begin to suffer, and your ability to concentrate and focus- you may feel you have reached  a crisis point . The crisis point can trigger- unhealthy responses to your experienced distress - this might trigger an unhealthy relationship with food  -increased alcohol dependence  - substance misuse - gambling - excessive spending - the fixes are often short term and may lead to an overall feeling of hopelessness and shame.

I understand contacting a counsellor might seem overwhelming. I would like to offer some reassurance.  I have practiced as a qualified counsellor for fifteen years - my previous work experience was working in the social care sector for over twenty years.  I am deeply committed to the service I offer, and the people that I work with. I value that counselling can enable a deeper understanding of our struggles,  and how life events trigger our unprocessed emotions. I offer my client’s my full attention during any discomfort experienced, while accessing painful thoughts and unsettling emotions.

Regardless of age , gender or financial position each of us will be presented with life challenges that can seem overwhelming . It is my belief for change to occur  - we need to begin to focus on the things that make us unhappy, or deeply uncomfortable- as a first step to releasing our authentic self.

My life experience has taught me that sensitive topics-  however disconcerting lose their toxicity once acknowledged . I believe if sensitive issues are hidden they can have a negative impact-  on both our physical and mental health . It is not uncommon for people to believe they cannot share their experience's for fear of being judged . As a counsellor I work to move away from limiting language and judgements that can trap us in our negative thought processes. Counselling can offer the opportunity to release past trauma  - how to manage overwhelming thoughts and feelings , self management to develop skills and techniques that improve mental well being , and improved relationships

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
