I am a qualified person-centred counsellor; I have experience of working with adults, young people and children with a wide range of complex issues.
In my private practice I work; independently in various therapy centres; I also work for a number of EAP's (Employee Assistance Programmes); deliver work for Lancashire County Council working with children and young people in schools; provide online therapy for an online counselling project.
Previous to this I specialised in working with young people who self-harm and those who have suicidal thoughts. I have also worked and volunteered for several organisations providing one-one support and therapy dealing with different issues; domestic abuse; care leavers; victims of crime, people facing homelessness and ex offenders.
Within each of the areas I have worked there is often many other underlying issues for example; loss/bereavement, anxiety, stress, anger, depression, isolation, loss of identity, abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, financial), eating disorders, bullying, attachment, behavioural issues and addictions.
Within my practice I feel it is important to value the humanity of the individual within the counselling relationship. As a person-centred counsellor I will meet with you to explore the areas in your life which personally concern you. You may know exactly what problems are troubling you or you may feel distressed without knowing why.
I feel very passionate about the benefits of both short-term and long-term therapy. I believe that my client's have the inner resources to resolve their own issues and therefore my role is not to give advice but to provide a supportive relationship in which I work with you within a safe, confidential, caring and non-judgemental environment which enables you to look at the issues that concern you, helping you to accept your feelings and empower you to take more control of your life.
I do adapt my approach from time to time dependent on the needs of the individual and I may therefore integrate elements of solution focused therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and/ or play therapy.
