Nicola Hydes Integrative Therapist (MBACP}
2-4 Cardiff Road
Firstly, I would like you for taking the time to read through my profile. I'm going to share a bit about myself and counselling experience. I will also give you insight as to how I work with my clients and the support that I offer.
I appreciate, that counselling can be daunting, especially if your feeling anxious and unaware of what to expect. Making that first step can be difficult. I hope to allow you to make an informed decision as to whether or not you feel that we can work together.
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone.
I am fully qualified integrative therapist currently practicing within Caerphilly, Cardiff of South Wales. Also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I hold a Criminal Record (DRB) Enhanced Disclosure Certificate and full indemnity insurance. This assures my clients a high standard of care.
I currently work with individuals who are experiencing mental health issues such as fears, anxiety, low self esteem, loss and grief all of which can have a huge impact on a persons life and relationships. I have a proven ability to empathise with individuals whilst retaining an objective realistic approach to their needs and therapy.
Individuals tend to attend Counselling for many reasons, often related to conflict and difficulties being experienced which are perhaps causing some distress in their everyday lives. They may be feeling troubled, anxious or depressed and feel as though they have no one else to turn to. Others may just need to gain clarity in certain elements of their lives in order to move forward and experience change/growth.
I offer a safe, genuine and non judgemental environment, whereby you can share your concerns or issues in confidence, explore in depth your feelings and emotions in relation to experiences, gain clarity and make your own decisions and choices. The aim in therapy is not to give you advice or find solutions for you but help you to find your own way forward.
The Counselling Process
People can have different perspectives of therapy, asking for help can be difficult, opening up to a complete stranger can appear daunting, especially if you need to talk about something you find painful, or difficult to cope with. Counselling can help individuals with various issues and concerns that can arise at any time of life and can help bring about effective change and overall positive wellbeing in a person. The aim of therapy is to create a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment, whereby client's can talk about any difficulties they may be experiencing which are impacting their everyday lives and explore aspects of their life that may be causing emotional distress or elements of their life they may want to change.
Having this therapeutic space for self exploration can help client's to recognise and accept how they feel, help to gain clarity and make decisions and choices which are right for them. I am not here to give you advice or resolve your problems. However, I will empower you to resolve your own issues or help you to find alternative ways of coping. Whatever you choose to discuss during session is completely private and confidential.
What to expect
Whilst my foundation in therapy is Person Centred which is very much client led and non directive, personal and effective. I will work with you collaboratively at your own pace in your own time enabling you to make decisions/choices that allow you to take control of your life again resulting in personal growth and self awareness. However, I also use a variety of theoretical approaches depending on clients needs drawing on elements of both psychodynamic and cognitive therapies.
I offer a 50 minute consultation, this will give you opportunity to share your concerns and reasons for counselling. I can give you an overview of how I work and we can both decide if we would like to continue to work together. This will also give you opportunity to ask any questions you may have. During our first consultation we can also agree to our contractual agreement which sets out clear boundaries for both of us should you wish to go ahead with therapy. There is no obligation for you to continue with sessions after the initial assessment.
In order to benefit from your sessions, I would recommend weekly sessions. However, the amount of sessions will depend on clients and their presenting issues. Sessions can vary, I offer short/long term or you may prefer an open ended contract. I will work with you as long as any work continues to benefit you.
We will hold regular reviews to check your progress and we can discus what is helping/hindering therapy at any stage. I believe these discussions are important so that I can continue to provide the best support to you. As an integrative Counsellor I will draw upon a number of tools and interventions depending on your needs. I will also invite you to give feedback.
Code of ethics

Training, qualifications & experience
I started some voluntary work within a drug and alcoholic rehabilitation hostel where I became interested in how both present and past experiencing can impact a persons well being and behaviours. I was drawn to supporting vulnerable young people/adults with their addictions and emotional problems which led to me beginning my counselling studies. I continued to pursue my passion for counselling and therapy at Coleg Nant Garw, Treforest, South Wales. During my counselling studies I worked with clients from all different cultural and diverse backgrounds experiencing a range of varied emotional and physical difficulties.
I have worked for a non charitable mental health agency for the past 4 years, prior to working within the mental health sector, I also gained experience working within Place 2 be, who provide counselling and therapeutic support in primary schools. Providing support to children suffering from emotional behavioural difficulties, helping them overcome emotional barriers and, family breakdown, depression, stress and mental health issues.
