Based in Leeds City Centre and shortly in north Leeds (LS17), I offer weekly counselling and psychotherapy. As your therapist my aim is to provide you with a safe and confidential space in which to explore the difficulties and challenges you are currently experiencing in your life.
Finding the right person to talk to can be so important at difficult times. Whether your problems are recent or long term, I will work with you to help you make sense of them in the context of your life right now. You may feel your difficulties started very early in your life. Through exploring these areas I aim to help you understand why you feel the way you do but also to change, grow and develop so that you can live the life you want to.
I have particular experience of supporting people with stress, anxiety and depression and will help you to gain a better understanding of why you feel the way you do. Over time this may change the extent to which your issues affect you.
To support our work I use mindfulness to promote a greater connection between the mind and the body. Mindfulness helps to develop a greater capacity to 'be with' life's inevitable challenges and live in the present moment. I aim to promote an openness and curiosity to your experiences which will also help you to understand yourself better. For further information you can look at my website www.leedsminfulcounselling.co.uk and read the article below - What is mindful counselling?
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP registered and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. I have a post-graduate diploma in Psychodynamic counselling from the University of Leicester.
I have experience of working with young people and adults gained from working for the Leeds NHS IAPT service as well in the voluntary sector with adults, with an NHS staff counselling service and in an HE setting with students.
In addition to this I have 25 years of experience working for a major public sector organisation in Leeds including many years as a senior manager. From this I have gained an in depth understanding of how work can give rise to stress and anxiety as well how we can develop more effective ways of coping with these issues, particularly by gaining a better understanding of our responses to these pressures.
I have also undertaken an 8 week mindfulness based stress reduction course as well as a two part course with the University of Bangor Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice on using Mindfulness in Therapy.
