About me

Are you having difficulty coping?  Or is life not working out the way you’d like it to? Do you want something different but don’t know where to start?

I am a friendly, experienced Psychotherapist based in Chorlton, South Manchester. I provide a safe space where you can talk in confidence about difficult emotional issues which may be stopping you from getting the most out of your life. Through counselling and therapy, I can help you make sense of painful feelings or troubling thoughts and experiences.

Sometimes it is difficult to express ourselves openly to those closest to us. Counselling and therapy is different, however, to talking with your friends and family. I am able to listen to your concerns attentively without judging or needing a certain outcome. I offer a safe place to explore and talk, where you can be assured that what you say and feel will be respected.

Through counselling and therapy, I offer you a chance to recognize and remove stumbling blocks and develop greater awareness, growth and coping strategies. I am able to accompany you and work with you to identify and manage the changes you want to make in your life. Through counselling and therapy, I can offer you an opportunity to learn skills which will help you break out of old patterns and ways of being.  These skills are rather like an emotional tool kit which you can take around with you for the rest of your life and which give you the freedom to make new choices, move forward and transform your life.

What to expect

The first therapy session will give you an opportunity to tell me more about yourself and what you hope to achieve from coming to therapy. Often, people don’t have a clear idea of what they want, but know that they want something different. You will have time to ask any questions and we can talk about the possibilities and expectations for our work together.

Once I have an understanding of you, I draw on several models of therapy, including TA (Transactional Analysis), Relational and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), depending on your needs.

I also encourage a respectful and trusting relationship where you will feel comfortable and safe enough to explore problems and feelings and express thoughts without fear of criticism or judgement.

I am able to offer long or short term therapy. We can decide to review our sessions as therapy progresses or work for a fixed number of weeks.

Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes.  Ideally we will meet regularly, as this furthers engagement with our work.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am Registered and Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), member of MIP (Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy) and of the ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis). The ITA is regulated by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I abide by the BACP and the ITA’s code of ethics.
I also have a Diploma in TA Psychotherapy with Clinical Speciality, from the Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy and a BSc in Psychology.

I have worked in private practice as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist since 2006.  I have experience counselling a wide range of adults on a wide range of relationship and personal issues (see below).

Prior to my work as a Psychotherapist, I have had a variety of experience, ranging from work as a teacher in Mexico to a publicity designer for an animation studio in Manchester.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
