Nicola Bard MBACP (Accred)
I am a fully qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor working in all areas of personal distress. I have a Private Counselling Practice in Rickmansworth and also work as a Relationship Counsellor for Relate. I worked for 3 years as a counsellor at a Centre for Addiction Management and for 3 years at the Watford Peace Hospice as a Bereavement Counsellor.
I have therapy rooms in Rickmansworth and Watford where I can offer confidential and professional counselling for all types of issues; anxiety, depression, stress related issues, low self esteem, relationship difficulties and bereavement. I also have experience in working with eating disorders, self harm and childhood abuse.
I believe that investing time and energy into exploring feelings and emotions in a safe and trusting environment with a professional and experienced counsellor can lead to greater self awareness, greater understanding, and therefore the power to change aspects of one's life that are cause for concern.
I work in a person-centred way, which means I believe that every individual has the capacity and potential to grow and flourish, if they are provided with a supportive and empathic environment. I aim to empower each individual to find within themselves the key to unlock that potential and to find within themselves the solutions to their difficulties. I firmly believe that, within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, the healing process can begin and positive changes can be made. I am also trained in systemic therapy, motivational interviewing and C.B.T. I can also offer effective relaxation techniques, such as guided meditation and mindfulness for the relief of stress, anxiety and depression.

Training, qualifications & experience
Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
Qualified Person-Centred Counsellor FdA, BA. Relate Trained Relationship therapist
Various courses in CBT techniques and Mindfulness meditation
Before qualifying as a Person-Centred Counsellor, I spent many years as a Samaritan. I have encountered some very brave people who have battled some very difficult issues, and currently work with clients whose determination and courage to turn their lives around, sometimes in the face of enormous adversity, leaves me convinced of the power, in all of us, to make positive and life-affirming changes.
Alongside my Private Practice, where I see clients in Rickmansworth and Watford, I work as a Relationship Counsellor for Relate. I have previously worked as a Counsellor in a centre for Addiction Management, as a Bereavement Counsellor for the Watford Peace Hospice and give talks and demonstrations of Mindfulness Practice.
However, I remain a general practitioner and can offer support and therapy for most common problems. I am also happy to make referrals for specialist treatments.
