Profile

I am an experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist working in private practice in Pinner, Middx.  I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a registered practitioner with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR). As well as being able to draw upon academic and counselling experience I have spent many years working in management positions for large corporations. As a result, I understand personally many of the everyday workplace anxieties such as stress, the drive to perform and achieve targets, meeting nerves and the challenges of team-working. I know how counselling can help with difficulties such as these and many more.

It is very important that you can trust and feel comfortable with your therapist. To help you achieve this you might be interested to learn that my own experiences prompted me to seek counselling several years ago in order to address life's personal issues and challenges. The warmth and respect I received in counselling had a hugely positive influence on the way I subsequently viewed personal difficulties and enabled me to recognise and value my own capacity for effective problem solving. As a counsellor I am able to offer support to others who find themselves in need of professional help during a difficult time or a crisis. My approach to counselling is very much about working with you with warmth, compassion and sensitivity. Together I will help you to achieve lasting improvements and a greater sense of well-being in your life.

I am experienced in counselling clients with a wide range of issues including the following:

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder
  • Depression
  • Smoking
  • Panic Attacks
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues
  • Gay Affirmative Therapy/Gay Counselling
  • Addictions
  • Anger Management
  • Confidence & Assertiveness
  • Caring for a Dependent

Training, Qualifications & Experience

In addition to working in private practice I regularly provide bereavement counselling in a hospice to clients who have lost a loved one through terminal illness or trauma. I also have extensive experience of counselling in an agency providing support to carers. The skills gained in these unique settings continue to inform and benefit my relationship with clients.

My qualifications include a Foundation Degree in Person-Centred Counselling (FdA) and a Diploma in Hypnotherapy (DipH). Whilst my personal approach is primarily Person-Centred I utilise aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Existential Therapies whenever this is appropriate and helpful to my clients.

I also have qualifications in the areas of Social Sciences (Ba Hons) and Management Studies (MSc) that compliment my counselling skills and enable me to assist clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, education or work-place settings. Whatever your concern you can be assured I will be able to assist you with an approach that is respectful, caring and professional and based on many years of experience and training.

Hypnotherapy

In addition to being a Counsellor and Psychotherapist I am also a qualified Hypnotherapist and a registered Hypnotherapy Practitioner with membership of the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Hypnotherapy is a completely safe and natural way to achieve positive and lasting results in a relatively short period of time. There are no negative side-effects and you remain in complete control of your actions during and after the session. Clients seek help through hypnotherapy for a range of issues such as eating disorders, phobias, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gaining confidence and feeling less anxious, reducing stress or overcoming depression. Hypnotherapy can be particularly effective for individuals seeking to become a non-smoker or relieving pain. Hypnotherapy is very pleasurable and relaxing - as one client recently said to me: "That was the most relaxed I have ever felt in my life!" I offer hypnotherapy as a separate service to counselling and would be happy to discuss how I might help you.

If you are interested in knowing more about the benefits of my hypnotherapy service please see my website for further details or contact me on 020 8866 2190.
