About me

I am a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor, and a member of the BACP.  I work with people using a relationship model which means, that the therapeutic process and work, happens within the relationship between the counsellor and the client. I believe that people are driven to try and connect with others with the desire to be heard and accepted, right there, for who they are.

This connection is achieved when people begin to talk and explore their reality within a safe space. Those painful memories and experiences begin to surface and heal.  Enabling the client to uncover coping strategies that no longer work for them.. It is at this point the work of changing and letting go can begin.

Life can be stressful or difficult at certain times in our lives. Sometimes our problems at home or work can build up and begin to affect our health and our capacity to do the things we normally do and enjoy. This can lead to a feeling of being stuck or overwhelmed with life.

Being heard and acknowledged as a person for who they are, there and then is a very healing process in its self. Having someone there to listen and validate our experiences of life with a non judgmental ear can help untangle painful feelings and thoughts that keep us stuck . This feeling of stuckness can affect our relationships and can sometimes leave us feeling confused and baffled.

Having someone to go to on a weekly basis can be of real value and help to anybody who is at a point in their life where perhaps things are not making sense or they are struggling with overwhelming circumstances in their lives. This could be for example, anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship problems or trauma.

Through my training I aim to offer a safe and confidential space to allow this process to begin. The work will allow you to discover new insights about yourself and with this knowledge you are able to change the old into something more fitting for you, enabling you to have a more fulfilling life.

I believe contact within the therapeutic relationship is key to the healing process and through this contact the peeling back of the layers can begin. I am here to assist that process with empathy, acceptance and a willingness to be involved.

Within my private counselling practice I work with many kinds of presenting problems such as anxiety(including generalized anxiety disorder), depression, work related problems, relationship difficulties, abuse, such as sexual, physical or emotional and addiction.

I also work as a specialist counsellor in a sexual violence clinic. I am a trained in working with Sex and Porn addiction.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
