About me

I am an experienced, BACP accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist and I offer a free initial consultation. I take a warm, non-judgemental and compassionate approach to working with your issues to provide you with a safe space for personal change.

With over twenty years of experience I am deeply committed to my work and your emotional health and wellbeing.

How can counselling help

Counselling and psychotherapy can help you get more out of life. It can help you understand and move on from the past, work out how to deal with the present and let go of unhelpful worry about the future. Counselling can help you communicate more clearly with others, be more assertive and work out what you really want. It can support you in feeling better in yourself and finding the joy in your life.

Transactional Analysis

I have a sound theoretical base to my work in Transactional Analysis. This comprehensive model can help us understand your relationship with yourself and with others. It can provide you with a clear framework for achieving personal change that supports your self-esteem, effective relationships and greater fulfillment.

Face to face sessions

These occur at my quiet and peaceful practice room in Lewes

Online / telephone sessions

Online and telephone sessions can be carried out on Zoom, VSee, Skype, Facetime or Whatsapp, using your PC, Laptop or phone. You will need a quiet, undisturbed place and I will contact you at the beginning of our agreed session time.

What to expect in your first session

I will invite you to share the issues that you are bringing to counselling and I will both listen and ask questions and support you in exploring and understanding your thoughts, feelings and experiences.  We will also agree what it is you want to resolve or change through the process of counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally worked as a Corporate Lawyer and Company Director in London.

In 1995 I decided to retrain in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I studied for four years at Wealden College where I gained a diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, Gestalt and Person-Centred counselling skills.

I have worked widely within the social care sector alongside my private practice. I was a counsellor for an NHS funded substance misuse service in Brighton and for a long time I worked with adolescents and young people. I have co-facilitated a therapy group within an NHS residential setting and I undertook a detailed psychotherapeutic placement working within an NHS therapeutic community specialising in secondary care mental health issues. For the last ten years I have worked solely in private practice with adults.

Professional memberships
I am a member of three professional organisations and I abide by their codes of ethics of good practice:

  • The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Accredited)
  • The United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis
  • The European Association of Transactional Analysis

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
