About me

My sessions focus on giving you 'time to talk, time to be heard and time for you' in a confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment. What I offer clients is the opportunity to talk openly about what is distressing them and restricting their potential to be the person they want to be.

I say 'want to' as I believe there is a tendency for many of us to think about what we 'should do' to lead a 'normal' life. This can suppress our own emotions and uniqueness, and often lead us to live our lives according to what is best for others rather than what is best for our own wellbeing. To put that at the forefront of your thoughts isn't about being selfish it is simply about taking care of yourself so that you have more energy and enthusiasm to engage with those you love and care for, and also do the things which emotionally nourish you want. Counselling at its best can give the individual an opportunity to discover what they want to change in their lives, and what they want to stop hurting. What I seek to do is work with you and provide space for you to review and hopefully come to terms with those parts of your life which trouble you, thus giving you the opportunity to make changes and your own choices for the future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
