About me

I work with people who, at some point in their life, find it difficult to cope on their own with problems they encounter in living. I offer both time-limited and open-ended therapy, depending on the concerns that bring you to counselling. These may vary in nature and intensity and can be experienced as anxiety, relationship or family issues, panic, feeling sad, confused or depressed. My primary concern in therapy is to create a warm and respectful relationship that would help you to feel safe to express your concerns as openly as you can. I do not diagnose, appraise or judge. Rather, I try to understand the story you tell about your problems so that we can find new ways of understanding and coping with difficulties and distress. My approach is informed by various bodies of therapeutic knowledge, all of which emphasise the importance of collaborative work towards achieving greater clarity about your experiences, values and what you are prepared to do to live a more meaningful and satisfying life.

With my former academic interest in social anthropology/cultural studies and my personal experience of living in different cultures, I developed a keen interest in how people negotiate their complex feeling of belonging and reshape their sense of identity. I enjoy working with people from diverse cultural background, and I offer therapy in English as well as in Serbian, Bosnian or Croatian.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of having therapy with me, get in touch by email (nevena.curcic.18@gmail.com) or phone (07910 56 96 06) so that we can arrange our initial session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Emotional abuse
Cultural identity issues
Relationship problems

I need to add that I do not believe that diagnostic categories are always helpful. I am interested in working with people experiencing difficulties regardless of whether they are able or not to put a name to the type of difficulty they feel.
