About me

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist offering psychological therapy for personal development and a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. These include depression, anxiety, low-self esteem and relationship issues.

Therapy can offer you:

Time to talk
Freedom to explore
Space to make decisions
An opportunity to make changes
A chance to gain problem solving skills

Initial Consultation

The first appointment is an opportunity for you to tell me about what brings you to therapy and what your hopes and expectations are. At the end of the appointment I will share my initial understanding of your problem with you, and explain the therapeutic approach I believe to be an appropriate way forward. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have.

Attending an initial consultation does not commit you to ongoing therapy. Many people are unsure about starting therapy, and an initial appointment can help with making that decision. It will be your choice whether to book another appointment, or take some time to consider whether I am the right therapist for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Counselling Psychologist (CPsychol) and a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Counselling Psychologist.

As a Counselling Psychologist I have been trained to use several different theoretical models in my practice. These include person-centred counselling, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural approaches and EMDR. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is currently recommended by the Department of Health and NICE as the ‘psychological therapy of choice’ for difficulties including anxiety and depression.

I have been in clinical practice since 2003 working with individuals and groups with a broad spectrum of difficulties. My clinical experience includes working in acute inpatient settings, community mental health, primary and tertiary care services within the NHS. I spent five years working with students at King's College London, where I was a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) specialist within the Student Counselling Service. I have also spent 4 years working with serving military personnel. My private practice was established in 2007.

Academically, I was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Surrey and have taught undergraduate psychologists at Birkbeck College. I have presented my research work at conferences, including the BPS Division of Counselling Psychology conference.

I have experience of providing clinical supervision to psychologists in training.

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
