About me
About Me
As a qualified, registered and experienced Integrative Psychotherapist and Life Coach, my approach focuses on personal growth, enabling a person to think about their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions. I have counselled for over 18 years in a variety of settings. I work with adults and couples. I have a range of packages available. I am available for therapy sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, daytime and evenings. I provide online services only, telephone, zoom and chat counselling to suit your needs.
What to Expect
Prior to the first session, you will receive an email assessment form, please complete and email it back to me. You will be emailed the counselling contract (an agreement between us about the counselling process) which you can sign online. The first session is a 'getting to know each other session'. We will decide together whether we can work together and what your goals for therapy are. We will aim to meet weekly for 50 minutes per session at a time agreed by both of us. I offer short and longer-term therapy; we will explore your thought processes, emotions and patterns of behaviour. We will look at solutions together. How long you continue in therapy is a choice between us and we review this throughout the counselling process, at every sixth session.
How can Counselling help?
Therapy offers a safe, confidential space to discuss anything you want to. It is with someone neutral who can be objective and empathic. Therapy lets you offload how you may feel and empowers you to regain control of your life. It is important to remember that therapy is a different experience for everyone and that you must feel comfortable with your therapist. The therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change; make sure you find the right person for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
As a registered member of the BACP and NCPS, I work safely and meet the standards of the Professional bodies as a competent, ethical and independent therapist through continuous supervision and professional development attending courses, workshops, events and research. I have a Psychology degree a counselling diploma, and a qualification in EMDR. I have over 18 years of therapy experience.
Previously I have worked for ChildLine/NSPCC for 8 years and in the field of Domestic Abuse for 10 years.
I have worked as a support worker and therapist to adults, couples, families, children and young people, in a range of settings.
I am an EMDR therapist, having completed phases 1, 2 and 3 of my EMDR training and I am registered with the EMDR association.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.
In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
