About me

I am a fully accredited BACP counsellor and supervisor working in South Wales, with over 8000 hours of practice experience.

My office is located in the Miners Centre, which has disabled access, plenty of parking, and is a 10 minute walk from Caerphilly train station.

I have experience across a range of issues, including anxiety disorders and depression, trauma and abuse, grief, relationship and marital difficulties, some eating disorders and long term low self-esteem.

My model of therapy is ‘relational’, with the central focus on the therapeutic relationship and how it can help heal emotional traumas.  I have trained in all the three main schools of therapy; psychodynamic, person centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and completed a number of workshops and educational courses on other approaches such as acceptance commitment therapy, solution focused therapy and transactional analysis (see continuous professional training below).  I do not offer a pure model of working, but instead work in an integrative way, bringing in different models depending on the client's needs.

I have a particular interest in the healing power of nature, and finding nature-based sources of self-healing, whether that is ‘forest bathing’, natural environmental sounds, bird watching, or any other kind of activity that allows people to connect with nature in a more meaningful way.

Taking the first step

If you are considering therapy, the first step is to make an initial enquiry.  I am always open to answer any questions you may have about the process, or about me as a therapist.

I am warm, empathetic and always work in a collaborative way with my clients.  If you feel comfortable about working with me, we can book an initial session and see how it goes.  There’s no commitment to stay – the direction and duration of your therapy is in your hands.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
