About me

Our busy life styles can often mean we avoid or push away difficult decisions and painful feelings. This can result in depression and anxiety, stress or anger and feeling overwhelmed; even that our lives are spinning 'out of control'.

Therapy can help us to reflect, understand and integrate the different aspects of ourselves and experiences.

Working with a therapist can help identify and change habitual or destructive patterns, enabling us to make informed choices. It provides a safe space and the time to explore ourselves, our lives and relationships.

Therapy can be both a subtle and also surprisingly revealing and potent experience. It takes thoughtfulness, commitment and compassion.

I take an integrative and relational approach with my clients. This means I attend to each person as a whole, their thoughts, feelings, perceptions, physical experience and the relationship between us. It also means that I take in to account that there are different ways, or therapeutic frameworks, to consider when exploring our experiences. I am not limited by one theoretical view point and so am able to work with clients in a non-judgemental, collaborative and creative way. In my experience, building an open and trusting relationship is key to successful therapy. There is much research to support this view.

As the process of therapy unfolds, we may move from focusing on immediate problems or symptoms to exploring how you might lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I would use the term 'counselling' to refer to working on specific issues, very often in a time limited way and 'psychotherapy' to describe a more open ended journey and exploration of your world.

I have a particular interest in bereavement and wider issues around loss and identity.  However I also work frequently to help clients with anxiety, depression, problems at work, relationship difficulties, issues around identity, sexuality, creativity and confidence.

Beginning therapy

Whether you are facing an immediate crisis or you feel you need help with something less identifiable, I offer a safe, supportive and confidential space where we can explore the issues you face. Our initial session is a chance for us to meet and see if I am the right therapist for you. We can also discuss whether short term work (6-12 sessions) or a longer period might be appropriate.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, or to arrange a confidential consultation.

I currently practice online and in Tottenham, North London. Please email me for availability.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an advanced diploma and an MA Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from The Minster Centre with distinction. I am accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

As well as working in private practice I also work as a student counsellor at The Courtauld Institute of Art and as a mental health student mentor at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.  I really enjoy working in different environments and the varied experiences they bring.

Long before I had any awareness of counselling or psychotherapy I held a fascination about people, their stories, and what makes us ‘do the things we do’.

As I have moved through life, this curiosity with how our feelings, experiences and the way we view ourselves can impact on how we relate to our self, others and the world around us, has developed into my work as a psychotherapist.

I have a particular interest in creativity, identity and what has made us who we are today. For my Master’s thesis I completed a research project exploring the identity of adults who had lost a parent during their childhood or adolescence. A summary of this research was published in the UKCP magazine The Psychotherapist in July 2016.

I am committed to working on my personal and professional integration through reflective practice, supervision and further training.

Some of the areas I have experience of working with are:

  • Depression and grief
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationships with self and other
  • Major life changes
  • Abuse and manipulation
  • Guilt, shame and envy
  • Compulsive and addictive behaviour
  • Feeling out of control
  • Loss of hope

Qualifications

  • UKCP accredited Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from Middlesex University. Grade: Distinction
  • UKCP accredited Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Minster Centre, one of the leading therapy training institutions in the UK and Europe.
  • BACP accredited Integrative Counselling Diploma from the Minster Centre

I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and of British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy and adhere to their code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
