About me

I am a BACP registered counsellor and child therapist, experienced at working with both adults and young people having offered emotional support and counselling over twenty years.  I have experience in supporting families at times of distress and, when facing personal challenges.

I aim to provide a quiet, safe and confidential space in my private setting, where you will be given the opportunity to feel accepted, treated respectfully, in a non-judgemental manner. I will listen to you and help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, allowing you to explore various aspects of your life in order to have a sense of meaning and to gain balance in your life. I value your uniqueness and embrace diversity.

I appreciate how sometimes in life we may face difficulties and personal crisis and, feel unable to cope with it's demands. We can become out of balance and lose perspective, affecting our thinking processes and feelings, creating behaviours that become stumbling blocks to affect our relationships and way of living, hindering our personal growth. Working collaboratively, we can explore your concerns in order to gain insight and awareness on how to bring effective change and, an improved way of coping and living.

My approach is Person-Centred working in an integrative way, which allows me to explore with you different ways of working which best suit your needs. Focusing on your individual needs will enable you to identify and better understand your issues. I believe in valuing the individual's choice to set the pace for their counselling and, accordingly will offer a flexible approach tailored to your particular needs.  I may draw on a number of therapeutic approaches and skills if it feels right for you, which can involve looking at patterns of behaviour and negative ways of thinking which may be keeping you stuck in limiting ways.

Further information

I can offer both short and longer-term therapy and, sessions can be weekly according to your individual needs and what you want to achieve.

My experiences include working with a range of issues i.e. anxiety, depression, stress, ill-health, relationship issues, family issues/breakdown, bereavement, loss, alcohol addiction, abuse, trauma, miscarriage and loss, isolation, health or work situations, life changes.
Other areas of counselling I deal with; anger management, issues of confidence and low self-esteem, bullying, self-harm, sibling difficulties, issues connected to attachment difficulties, school related difficulties.

I can offer supportive interventions for parents/carers in order to assist with difficulties in their relationship with their child and, sometimes this can involve looking at their own attachment difficulties which prevents them from bonding effectively with their child.

As a child therapist, I connect and engage with children and young people in their therapy,  through using the creative arts and play as a safe medium, which allows them to safely express their worries and fears. My philosophy and belief informs me how play for young children is their natural language and way of communication, which informs their development. In their therapy, I will help to process their concerns, as I will be able to recognise play themes which reflect their emotional needs.

I have worked for voluntary organisations and charities, including MIND, Relate and Family Mediation, gaining diverse experience working with adults, families and young people from a variety of social and ethnic backgrounds. My experiences include developing counselling services within schools in Wiltshire and Staffordshire. In Bristol, I have worked within Health Promotion and voluntary organisations such as Womankind and Wellwomen, to promote and support awareness for emotional, mental and physical well-being of women and their families.

I am committed towards my continuous professional development in the form of training and courses.

I have full professional indemnity insurance.

I have Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

I attend regular clinical supervision in accordance with the BACP code of ethics to ensure safe practice.
