About me

I feel we all have the inner resources and answers within us to lead happy and fulfilling lives. However, at times it can be hard to hear this inner wisdom and guidance through the noise of modern life and deep emotional pain.

My role is to offer an environment built on compassion, a non-judgemental attitude and an authentic presence. Here you can discover meaningful insight about yourself, move through periods of feeling stuck and develop valuable skills in order to move forward with life.

As an integrative practitioner I incorporate various counselling approaches or schools of thought in order to find a way of working that is right for you. Please read the qualification section to find out more.

I have a special interest in Women with or who identify with ADHD, experiencing Perimenopause/Menopause and people with the Highly Sensitive Personality trait. I frequently work with anxiety, the inner critic, self-compassion, attachment style, relationships, loss/grief/isolation and building healthy boundaries. (I have also received further training in counselling ONLINE)

I view each person as an individual as I strive to understand your unique experience and view of the world. For me, counselling is YOUR space to express, explore and make sense of your inner world in safety.

How often do you allow yourself time to be this important?

During my 13years of counselling I have wide range of experience working with people encountering:-

Testimonies:-

'The liberating outcomes of my time with Mo transformed my life. I quickly enjoyed a warm and compassionate therapeutic relationship that I trusted. I felt understood and cared for. She supported and guided with expert skill. Patient perceptiveness was combined with deftly delivered wisdom. Mo focused her strength and sensitivity with great generosity of spirit. I was lucky to find her.' Anon, Portslade.

'I wholeheartedly recommend Mo Jones as a Counsellor. In her I found a warm, non-judgmental and compassionate individual who gently guided me through some very difficult times. Before I came to see her I believed I would never again be happy about myself or my life. With Mo’s support I began to see that my life journey can be a joyous one and behind the dark clouds there is always a blue sky. I will always be grateful to her for the inspiration and support she offered me.' Anon, Brighton.

'Mo's warm and friendly manner combined with her professionalism means that I feel in safe hands to explore difficult issues. She is both intuitive and open, so she asks the right questions at the right time. Her thoughtfulness and thorough approach is very encouraging in moving forward and getting to the root of issues in a gentle and supportive environment. Since talking to Mo, I have challenged myself and really grown as a person. I can't recommend Mo enough.' Anon, Hove.

'Being counselled by Mo has been a really positive experience. Mo has created a secure space for me where I have been able to explore some sensitive issues from my past and in particular a difficult family relationship. I have found Mo to be totally alongside me, warm, gentle and non judgemental. I have found old stuck ways of being are gradually shifting. I find that I sleep better, and feel more empowered to cope with life. I am more accepting of both myself and others and feel more open to change. I have always felt really understood and supported by Mo and look forward to our sessions ' Anon, Brighton

'I started seeing Mo because I wanted to address the anxiety I had all my life but I was starting to find overwhelming. Mo listened to the way I wanted to work and has helped me find new ways to deal with my anxiety as well as looking deeper at where my anxiety comes from so I have been able to make changes in myself and my life that have made me feel calmer, happier and much better at coping with anxiety.' Anon, Brighton.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor (Dips). The means I work from a Person Centred Foundation integrating other modes of counselling such as CBT, Gestalt, Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis, Existential philosophy and Mindfullness. Since qualification my style has grown to encompass other approaches of counselling of which I have briefly outlined below:-

I practice Compassion Focused Therapy, which is especially useful when working with anxiety and the self-critic. Here we explore the impact of the threat and self protection system (fight, flight, freeze behaviours). And work to reduce difficult feelings such as shame, build compassionate qualities and cultivate a self-soothing system.

I also incorporate Attachment theory during my work in order to uncover and understand the dynamics within family relationships and romantic partnerships. This can be especially helpful when looking to change patterns of behaviour and facilitate growth in close relationships.

Over recent years I have grown special interest, knowledge and experience in working with people with ADHD and/or relate to ADHD or VAST traits, women experiencing the often scary changes and struggles of Perimenopause and those navigating the Highly Sensitive Personality Trait.

In addition my work with CRUSE Bereavement Care gave me extensive experience in holding the space for clients coming to terms with the profound pain of grief, loss and isolation.

I am also further and specifically qualified in providing Online Counselling. This may take the form of e-mails, instant messaging or Skype. Counselling online offers anonymity, flexibility around timings and convenience if you are unable to leave your home, live remotely or you are uncomfortable with working face to face.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
