Hello, I'm a Gestalt trained Counsellor. Gestalt has no direct translation, however, loosely translated it means 'whole' - I believe that each of us, in order to be 'whole', need to be able to access all parts of ourselves and adapt accordingly.
At times we can get stuck and find ourselves responding in the same way to a number of different situations, this is normally outside of our awareness. Through counselling, learn more about yourself and the habitual patterns that may have once served you, but no longer yield the same results.
As a Gestalt counsellor I draw on a number of creative tools such as art and poetry to give voice to the parts of the client that maybe closed off or for whatever reason inaccessible. I work with my clients, creating a caring and warm environment allowing them to explore openly, and without judgement, the different parts of themselves.
The focus of Gestalt counselling is not to dwell on the past, but to think about how the past affects us in the present. We work together, towards integration and living a life that feels more whole. Recently, I have incorporated elements of CBT, Mindfulness and Systemic thinking into my practice.
I have experience in a number of different settings, working at The Cancer Resource Centre and Macmillan Cancer Support I counselled patients and their loved ones, supporting them in coming to terms with a diagnosis. At Kids Company, I worked with Children and young people as well as teachers and parents both individually and in groups. During my time at the Woman’s Trust, I developed extensive experience of working with women affected by domestic violence.
I currently work as a Counselling Supervisor at NSPCC, within their ChildLine service. I also do some voluntary work at St Joseph's Hospice counselling those who have suffered a bereavement.
I offer a face to face & telephone counselling.
