About me

My Experience

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience.

I have worked with both private clients and a number of organisations including a Counselling Service funded by the NHS, the RNIB and the London Rape Crisis Center. Currently, I offer short term and open-ended counselling/therapy  at my private practice  in Eastcote and also at a group practice, called One Therapy which is based in Bloomsbury where I am a senior consultant therapist.

My approach

I use a number of different approaches to enable me to work sensitively with my clients. These include Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred, cognitive-behavioural therapy, attachment theory and EMDR.

At our first meeting we will discuss what problems and difficulties you might be experiencing and how I can best support you to make any life changes you may wish to. My aim is to create a safe space, through listening and empathy where you can express your feelings and thoughts without judgement.

My Private Practice

If you wish to have discuss whether or not counselling may be useful to you please feel free to contact me.

The nearest tube station to my practice is Eastcote which is on the Metropolitan line. The practice is about a 10 minute walk from the station.

The nearest tube station to the practice where I work in central London is Tottenham Court Road. The practice is a 4 minute walk from the tube station.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Quallifications

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. l hold a MSc in Psychotherapy and am a EMDR trained therapist. I also have an Advanced certificate in Couples Therapy.

My background

I became interested in counselling as in the 1980s I was involved in HIV/AIDS work. I felt very moved by what I was witnessing : loss, bereavement, death, prejudice and hope. I felt ill-equipped to deal with painful and complex issues. During this period, my manager was training to be a therapist. I was deeply impacted by how he would with sit with painful and difficult feelings in an empathic and respectful way. I said to myself, " I want to do that." That's how I began my training to be a therapist in 1991.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
