Miranda Portwood - FdA Counselling, Dip CBT, MBACP
Hi, my name is Miranda and I offer a private counselling service which is based in Wimborne in Dorset.
All of us face difficulties from time to time that affect our emotional well being and counselling can help with many personal issues from a single life event to ongoing challenges. I believe that change is always possible no matter what our age or circumstances.
There can be a number of different reasons why you are considering counselling at this time and I can offer a safe and confidential space where we can explore ways to move forward that help you to live a more fulfilling life. Counselling can be short term or longer term depending on your needs and I am flexible in respect to session frequency and time and so can offer appointments during the day and in the evenings.
It is important for me that you should feel comfortable with me as it can take a lot of courage to talk to someone you don't know. So I offer a completely free of charge first session so you can decide if counselling with me is right for you at this time.
My practice is based in central Wimborne and there is public parking nearby. I can offer face to face counselling or via telephone or Skype if that would be more convenient.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a trained humanistic integrative therapist which means that I tailor my approach depending on the needs of the client. I fundamentally use the person-centred approach as I firmly believe in every person as unique. However I also integrate aspect of TA (Transactional Analysis), Gestalt and CBT (Cognitive behavioural Therapy) into my practice as a way of finding an individualised approach for each person.
I am a qualified General Nurse and also a Psychiatric Nurse, both of which helps to inform my counselling work and and enables me to view each person in a holistic way, Mind, Body and Spirit. I am a fully registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I have been counselling since 2010 and I have gained counselling experience in working in a community counselling service, a charity for adult survivors of child abuse and, for the last two and half years, in a local Further Education College with mostly 16-25 year old students. I have 15 years’ nursing experience working with people suffering with a variety of physical and psychological illnesses.
I have a particular interest in working with people suffering with Eating disorders and their Carers. I work with the local NHS Eating Disorder service in a training capacity, work as a Supervisor for a local Eating Disorders charity and am involved in online mentoring.
