What brings people to counselling or psychotherapy?
Do you experience difficulties? Do you struggle with relationships, self-esteem? Are you feeling stressed or lonely? Or maybe something happened to you and you need a safe confidential space to speak to someone.
My aim is to offer everyone a safe, confidential and supportive space where you can explore your innermost thoughts and feelings without being judged.
I am committed to being a part of the emotional and psychological recovery, and I appreciate diversity. I focus my attention on how you and I are relating in the present moment in the therapy session and I help you to find your own solutions and strategies to bring about the desired changes in your life.
In my extensive professional background I worked as a 1-to-1 therapist as well as a group facilitator with adults and young people in the field of trauma and violence, substance misuse, mental health, rehabilitation, probation, domestic violence, homelessness - in the not-for-profit as well as the statutory sector (NHS).
If you are not sure about the nature of your difficulties, or whether you would benefit from counselling or not, please contact me for a no-obligation confidential consultation.
"For healing to occur, we must give our overwhelming experience words." (Sandra Bloom,1997)
Training, qualifications & experience
I am trilingual, speaking English, Czech / Slovak, Romani and I have lived and worked in various parts of the world. I spent the early part of my career as a researcher and teacher and have MA honours degree in Sociology and Romistics (1991).
In 2009 my passion for my own personal development and people's everlasting ability to grow through human connection brought me to the counselling training.
Since then I finished training as a Counsellor (Diploma in Counselling, 2012) and Psychotherapist (MA in Gestalt Therapy Theory Studies, 2015).
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Domestic violence
- Drug abuse
- Eating disorders
- Gender dysphoria
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Passive aggressive behaviour
- Personality disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Other areas of counselling I deal with
"Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak whispers the o'er fraught heart and bids it break." (Shakespeare, Macbeth)
Recently I specialize in working with sexual trauma (rape), both past and present. Experience of trauma impacts all person, their entire life, including nervous system, feelings, thoughts, relationships, beliefs about themselves, others, and the world.
Through developing support, grounding, validating your experience and feelings, tolerating memories, and separating past from the here & now my aim is to support transformation and development of new healthy confidence, beliefs and lifestyle.
- Individual therapy session (50 minutes) costs £50 - £80.
Low cost slots are available for individuals on a low income or clients receiving benefits, including working tax credit, or who are registered as disabled or as a pensioner or student. Please enquire for availability. I operate a 7 day cancellation policy. Cancellations with 7 days notice will not incur a charge, otherwise the full fee is payable.
During the initial consultation, we’ll talk about what your goals are from therapy. The session is an opportunity for you to explore how we work together and make sure you feel comfortable you are making the right decision for your therapy.
If we agree to work together, we will meet regularly / weekly, checking in often to ensure your needs and expectations are being met.
We can talk about the length of time you would like to work together during the initial consultation. For supporting you through a specific problem, between 6 and 18 session is usually appropriate.
I also offer longer-term ongoing therapy, allowing us to explore more deeply.
