About me

Michelle Blake, MBACP, BA (Hons), PG Cert Autism, PG Cert ADHD

I am a warm, empathetic, Neurodivergent Counsellor/Coach with lived experience of being both Autistic (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I specialise in working with clients who are neurodivergent either self-diagnosed or pre/post-diagnosis.

As well as having lived experience of being Autistic and ADHD, I am also part of a neurodivergent family and am qualified in neurodevelopmental conditions across the lifespan. I have chosen to work exclusively in a  Counselling/Coaching capacity specialising in supporting Autistic and ADHD individuals, including self-diagnosed and pre/post diagnosis, as well as their families. I also work with those who are exploring the possibility of being neurodivergent (ADHD and/or ASC).

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

BA (Hons) Degree Person-Centred Counselling
Certificate in Clinical Supervision

SVQ3 Social Services Children and Young People

PG Cert in Autism and Learning

PG Cert ADHD and Neurodevelopmental Conditions

My Approach:

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, now working almost exclusively in a coaching capacity specialising in supporting Autistic and ADHD individuals as well as their families. I also work with individuals who are exploring the possibility of neurodivergence (ADHD and/or ASC).

As well as 1:1 sessions, and couple and family coaching, I can provide training and workshops around my specialism in ADHD and Autism. I recently received funding to write and deliver a 10-week neurodivergent parenting programme for parents/caregivers who believe their children may have ADHD or ASC or who are already navigating parenting a neurodivergent child, in order to educate, inform and empower them on their journey. The pilot programme has already been delivered with positive evaluations and feedback and I am currently halfway through the second delivery of the programme.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My Service:

I am neurodivergent affirmative, trans, and LGBTQI+ inclusive. I see clients in person and online for sessions and am sensory-sensitive. I want you to feel at ease during our time together, so please feel free to wear sunglasses to our session, have dimmed lights, and camera off, or communicate via text in order to accommodate your needs. As each person is unique, I will create a bespoke program of coaching support that works for you.

Whilst my goal is to support you to adapt your life to better fit your neurology, I am not medically trained and my role in our coaching relationship is to share my knowledge and expertise around my lived experience and my training, the responsibility for taking action and applying what you learn is yours.
