Profile
I am able to offer clients face-to-face or telephone (via Skype) counselling in a confidential, safe environment, to explore areas such as depression, anxiety, mental health issues, or feelings of stress, anxiety and loss. I am also able to help people explore issues around problematic drinking or substance use. I offer space and time for clients to be themselves, in a safe and supportive environment where clients
are able to explore their individual experiences. My role is not to be totally
directive, but to be guided by the client and help them explore their own ideas
and develop their own path in life.
In working with clients I believe it is important for them to become aware of their own feelings, as an individual’s view of life is unique. In our work together, I respect client’s views and help the client to reach their full potential. What is going on in the room between us as client and counsellor is often a reflection of what is happening for the client in the outside world and sometimes I will work with these reflections if we agree that this feels right.
I have a genuine belief that people can change and grow, although they may not initially realise it. I see the relationship between myself and the client as very important and that I am there to empower a client and help them develop and grow.
I believe in an openness and acceptance of others and have anawareness of the value of difference and equality in individuals. I will not 'categorise' or 'label' people and I acknowledge each individual’s experience as valid.
Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to agree how we may work together and how many sessions we may have. Our time together will be regularly reviewed and as a counsellor I adhere to the BACP 'Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy'. This can be viewed on-line at www.bacp.co.uk
I have a therapy room based in the centre of York, within five minutes of bus and rail connections. There is also on-site parking available. There is disabled access via an internal lift and external ramp. The premises also has a reception and waiting room. A counselling session costs £35.00 per hour and cancelled sessions are not charged provided 24 hours notice is given. I can be contacted on 07534104188
