Counsellor and Supervisor Michael Dempsey
49 Palin Street
Enquiring into counselling is a brave thing to do as looking into thoughts and feelings can be scary and confusing. My own experience as a client told me it was the not knowing what I was going through that was the most difficult part. Yet this first step shows we have the determination to take control of things in our lives we might have been neglecting. These might be ways we think about ourselves, how we get on with others, patterns of behaviour or attitudes we may feel stuck in. As I see it, the purpose of counselling, and my role as counsellor, is to make sense of the things we find, to be interested and curious about them and to explore other ways of how we can get on in our life.
My job also involves taking care of the set up, as it really helps to feel safe and supported when we look into how we feel about our self in relation to others. And also, to keep hold of the various bits we discover, rather like a jigsaw puzzle, in a way that makes putting the puzzle together a lot easier. I want to share my own experience and knowledge of how we can be more confident and positive in our outlook on life.
It begins and ends with you, and the first step that shows how you are already well on your way to sorting any difficulties out.
Picking a counsellor isn’t easy so I offer a free initial session so you can get a chance to see how we might work together.

I have been working and studying for 12 years. I am fully qualified both as a counsellor and as a supervisor.
I have held various roles within the profession:
As counsellor I have working with clients having a very broad range of issues,. I draw on my professional and life experience in order to offer support and insight into the issues that affect us.
As assessor within an organisation I am trained to offer clarity around the meaning and nature of counselling and whether it is appropriate to the person enquiring so they can best decide if this is what they want.
As manager of a service I am familiar with how a service is organised, its day to day running, and how it may best serve and support both counsellors working within it and clients accessing it.
As supervisor, I am familiar with the major psychotherapeutic approaches and understand and use them as perspectives on how we make sense of our way of being in the world and how we work. Most importantly I offer support for the personal and professional development of the practitioner..
