Michael Blythman, BSc (Hons), BACP (Accred.)
You may be feeling overwhelmed by your past. Or perhaps your current levels of stress and anxiety are preventing you from being happy in yourself. Or you may be struggling to find a sense of direction for the future. Take heart, you have reached the right place. You have taken the first step towards finding a solution and feeling better.
Family and friends often do what they can to provide help through the many events of life. Sometimes, however, their advice is not enough and you need a profession ‘outsider’ who can truly listen and support you to feel better.
In counselling you are encouraged to talk about your problems in a friendly, safe and confidential therapeutic relationship. You are supported to express yourself in your own way and in your own time. As you begin to talk about your problems you will experience them in a new way, breaking free of your old habits, reactions and negative self talk. You will find a new sense of confidence in yourself. I will build upon this by supporting you to set goals for yourself and help you to achieve them.
You will learn to understand yourself and gain insight into your patterns of relating to others. You realise that you have choices in how you respond to others, which can bring an incredible sense of liberation. Change in one part of life affects all other parts, leading to improved feelings, thoughts, relationships and responses to events and situations. Often people begin to find their own voice, which provides the self direction and strength needed to face life in a new way.
Hypnotherapy has been proven to be effective in helping people to make behaviour changes. It is widely used to assist in smoking cessation, weight loss, performance enhancement and overcoming phobias. It is extremely effective when setting and achieving goals. It does this by directly accessing the creative mind, the imagination, and using positive suggestions to reach desired goals.
Perhaps less well known is hypnoanalysis: using hypnosis to explore past events to uncover self limiting beliefs. Hypnoanalysis can help you uncover emotional blocks which may be the cause of depression, anxiety or psychosomatic illness.
We are all shaped by our past for good or bad. Our childhood has affected each of us in ways which are often out of our control. These early events plant seeds in our inner mind which become fixed ideas we live by. These fixed ideas are often out of conscious awareness. However, hypnosis can help uncover these beliefs, leading to greater freedom and control, leaving the past behind.
As with counselling, hypnotherapy is only as good as the therapist utilising it. My extensive training and experience in counselling enable me to proceed safely and therapeutically at a pace that suits you.
