Meryl Buchanan BA (Hons) Psych, MSc, MA, PGCE, MBACP
Hello, my name is Meryl and I work in Aberystwyth as a Counsellor and therapeutic coach. I have a background in applied psychology, personal development, health promotion and coaching, with over 30 years experience in these fields. I work with adults, young people, couples and also groups.
My approach to is person-centred integrative. This means that I will work with you to facilitate a clearer understanding of any issues that may be causing you concern, to help you become more self-aware and promote positive change. This may involve looking at issues from the past, focusing on present difficulties or exploring future goals and aspirations. The agenda is very much your own and I will listen deeply to you to help you to develop greater personal insight and a way forward that feels right for you.
Where appropriate,I use a range of techniques from the fields of cognitive behavioural therapy and transactional analysis, positive psychology, creative therapies and mindfulness practice to support learning and change. My work is also informed by an understanding of life course development and disruption, family systems and the impact of trauma on well-being and health.
I believe that everyone has the ability to develop, grow and change and that being able to share problems and reflect on issues in a supportive, safe and non-judgemental space is key to personal growth.
The best way to contact me initially is by email or send me a text with your contact information and I will get back to you a soon as I can
I look forward to meeting you
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an honours degree in Psychology and masters degrees in both Health Promotion and Management Learning and Leadership. I am also a qualified teacher (PGCE). I also have a particular interest in working with fatigue issues and burnout.

I have also worked locally within a further and higher education setting for a number of years teaching psychology and counselling skills and it was at this time I qualified as an Integrative Counsellor.
Currently I teach in higher education for both the Open University and Aberystwyth University (Lifelong Learning) on psychology, health and social care and counselling degree level courses. The areas in which I specialise include; children's development and child psychology, health psychology, positive psychology, addiction and trauma, fear and sadness (anxiety and depression) adult life-course development and transitions.
