About me

Which Counsellor do you choose? Do you select one with the most qualifications? The one with the most letters after their name? The kindest face in the profile picture? Do you choose the most expensive one - or the cheapest? I would encourage you to trust your intuition when selecting a Counsellor and allow this to help guide you.

I am a highly experienced practitioner and have worked as a Psychotherapist for over 16 years. I work with numerous issues (listed further down) but my area of expertise is working with Trauma where I have completed extensive additional training/qualifications to be able to work with this particular specialism. Working with Trauma (including Complex Trauma, PTSD) requires in-depth understanding of how Trauma affects people as the consequences can be varied and wide ranging.  People can be affected by trauma in numerous ways: emotionally, psychologically, physiologically and also spiritually encouraging a holistic approach as a practitioner.

I have a particular interest in abuse within relationships and am particularly intrigued by the more covert forms of abuse which can be very challenging to detect as they are typically disguised as support or care.  Manipulative kinds of behaviour such as: coercive control, gaslighting, neglect and enslavement (emotional, physical and spiritual) are common tactics used to assert power over others and encourage co-dependant relationship dynamics.  An example of this is the normalisation of the use of tracking apps on devices often justified in abusive relationships as "staying safe".  Understanding and making sense of early life experiences with others can assist in addressing the behaviours adapted in adulthood which facilitate abusive behaviour.  An integral part of my role is to help clients highlight blindspots where they may have difficulty holding boundaries and be inadvertantly giving away their power.

My approach as a Counsellor combines honesty, care and non-judgement to help you work towards a better understanding of yourself. I know through both personal and professional experience that there are times in life when we all need some help along the way - to acknowledge this takes courage. l have worked as a Counsellor for over 16 years with a wide variety of issues and work with both individuals and couples.

I have received Accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which means that my practice has been deemed to meet BACP's higher standard as a competent, ethical, independent practitioner.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
