About me

I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist with 15 years of experience working privately, for community services and in charities, with adults (18 years+). I offer short and long term work, both in-person and online.

I am registered with the following private health insurers:

  • AXA Health
  • Vitality Health
  • Aviva

How can I help you? Our everyday conversations with friends, family and colleagues can be hugely supportive and important. However, it is also sometimes just as important to have a more neutral and/or focused space in which we can talk about the things that are troubling to us, causing us stress or even pain. Equally, and for all sorts of reasons, it is not always the case that we have friends, family or colleagues who are easily accessible and so sometimes we can feel like we’re lacking regular, supportive contact. I aim to provide a non-judgemental, collaborative and confidential space in which you can talk about whatever it is that you need to – whether it is to simply decompress, explore something in more depth, or to seek to implement change.

What can I help you with? My experience and interest span a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to):

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem and/or confidence
  • Relationship issues (including family, partners, friends, colleagues)
  • Feelings of panic and/or panic attacks
  • Stress, including work related stress
  • Feelings of loneliness
  • Bereavement
  • Problems related to feeling a lot of anger
  • Abuse, including historical abuse.

If you are unsure whether or not I am able to help, it’s a good idea to get in touch and make an initial inquiry. I ask all new clients if they would be happy to have a brief chat online (free of charge, no obligation) so that we can both check in that I am the right person for you to work with. The most important thing is for you to find someone you are comfortable with and who has the right experience and training to work with what’s troubling you. I work with a very broad range of issues, but if you or I think you might benefit from working with someone with different, or specialist experience, we can discuss your options and if I can I will provide you with a referral or recommendation.

What next? Following an initial telephone call, our first full session will focus in more depth on areas in your life that you would like to talk about, explore and possibly change. If you are comfortable to, we will then make an initial agreement to work short-term (6-12 weeks) or long term (12+ weeks) on a weekly basis. Sessions are 50 minutes on a once weekly basis.

What else? If you have any questions, feel free to email or call.

Further background information: You might also like to know that my initial training was a 5-year Masters level programme at Metanoia Institute and I have a background in counselling and psychotherapy research, writing, supervision and teaching. I currently lead the MA Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (adult) training at the University of Roehampton.

My latest book is out now: Counselling Skills in Action (2020) – Megan R. Stafford & Tim Bond. London: SAGE.
