Talking about problems and feelings can be difficult - I provide an understanding, non-judgemental, compassionate and safe environment in which you can begin the process of expressing yourself and exploring the feelings, thoughts and problems that are troubling you.
I am an Integrative Counsellor, meaning I use various therapeutic methods and approaches that will best support you and assist you in working through your issues.
I use Humanistic or Person-Centred Counselling, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Behavioural Therapy. During the course of therapy I may use a combination of these approaches. As an Integrative Counsellor I feel that these three approaches work well together for many people, as it involves useful aspects of looking at your past to see how this may still be affecting you, working through any present-moment or here-and-now problems you are struggling with as well as looking at any negative or unwanted behaviours that may be hindering you. However I do believe in each person's individuality and as such my counselling approach reflects this, your sessions will be tailored to suit your needs, issues and personality.
I work with many issues including stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, couples counselling, life-change/transition as well as unexplained unhappiness.
I can work with individuals, couples and families.
I have a specialist interest in women's issues, parenting issues and young-person's issues. I work with survivors of domestic violence, as well as those still living with it. I also work with people who are struggling with an experience of social care - either as someone who has been removed from parental care or parents who have lost guardianship of their child/children.
I work with adults, both men and women. I can also work with teens (under 18) with the permission of a parent, guardian or other adult family member or in the case of young people in care with the knowledge of the appropriate professional (eg Social Worker, Family Liaison or Solicitor).
Training, qualifications & experience
I studied Counselling at the University of Hertfordshire, as well as studying Counselling and Psychotherapy with Chrysalis.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and am an Accredited member of the National Counselling Society.
I am an Integrative Counsellor, meaning I am trained and experienced in many forms of therapy and will utilise various therapeutic tools and methods to support each client as an individual.
I have several years experience in providing therapeutic support for parents, and have also trained with The Samaritans.
I also have experience in working with vulnerable young people, particularly those who have lived or are living within a social-care environment as well as young parents whose child/children have been removed from their care (either temporarily or permanently).
Combining my training, qualifications and experience I work with my clients in absolute confidentiality in a warm, non-judgemental and supportive way to help them face their emotional difficulties and begin the process of acceptance, change, adjustment and healing.
For those facing a particular problem I work in a directive, pro-active way to help my clients achieve resolution.
