About me

I believe that change occurs through relationships.

I can support and help you explore your unique way of being in the world without fear of judgement, staying curious about who you are and how your life is. Could it be better? Are things good enough for you the way they are now?

I have trained in children's counselling, young people, families, individuals and couples counselling.

The first session:

In this session, I will ask you about yourself and what has made you decide to come to counselling at this stage of your life. This is so we can decide what are the most important things about your life and what goals for counselling you have.

It's important to consider if I am the right counsellor for you and perhaps look at whether you feel a specific period of therapy short-term or longer-term ongoing therapy is the right approach for you. I often start by suggesting a six-week programme and then review our work and talk about a way forward.

The sessions are for 60 minutes and my rooms are in Purley. It is well serviced by public transport and there is free parking available outside the room.

Please feel welcome to email me or call to ask any questions you may have or to arrange an initial telephone conversation.

I am Accredited and Registered with the BACP and have been trained extensively in couple counselling, family counselling and children and young people's therapy with Relate.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT)

EFT is usually a short-term (8-20 sessions), structured approach to couples therapy formulated in the 1980's and has developed alongside the science of adult attachment and bonding to expand understanding about what is happening in couple relationships and to guide therapists.
