Profile

I have always been interested in the helping professions and in people. I worked as a nurse for four years and a health visitor for eight  years. I have been a college lecturer/tutor for the past ten years teaching health and counselling. I firmly believe that a person's mental health can greatly influence their physical emotional and social well being. I have gradually become more and more interested in psychological health as the years have passed, and I feel priviledged to help people in this way as a counsellor. 

I work in an intregated way with a strong person centred base.

I now have my own business as a counsellor, Hypnotherapist and Reiki Practitioner, and have the relevant qualifications for all three therapies. I am fully insured with Towergate insurance company and I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and psychotherapists. 

I have always have the client's best interests at heart and work in a very professional way recognising individual needs and responding appropriately. I am currently studying to be a supervisor (qualify in November 2011)            

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I  hold a Diploma in counselling obtained 2002.

I have worked as a counsellor in both the voluntary and statutory services for many years.

I worked at & sexual abuse centre for 2 years and victim support for two years. I also counselled students for two years and used counselling skills with students in all my teaching over a ten year period. I have also done some private work as a counsellor and have worked  for a social enterprise.

I have attended many study days and courses relating to counselling such as understanding diversity, introduction to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and understanding effects of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

I have a Degree in Community Health and hold a qualification in General Nursing (I am a qualified Registered General Nurse and Health Visitor). I also hold a certificate in further education, a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and I  have a level 2 qualification in Reiki.

Some clients feel that combining Reiki with counselling is particuarly therapeutic especially for stress and anxiety.
