About me

I specialise in assisting adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression or anger. These issues often show themselves in family relationships, in social situations or at work, and there is often a feeling of stress or overwhelm, or of being caught in a web of emotions that is intractable.

My role is to help you gain understanding and find solutions, to steadily untangle the strands of the web. My training and experience allow me to help you find new ways of seeing old problems, to discover that you can cope with stress, enjoy family and work relationships and regain a sense of yourself and purpose in life.

Sometimes issues are less clear-cut and there may only be a feeling that something is not right or a sense of loss, worry or limitation that is difficult to put into words. Again, the therapeutic process can help you get underneath this phenomenon in order to gain insight, clarity and renewed vitality.

I work with all kinds of issues, most commonly with anxiety and depression and disproportionate anger. I have worked with people following affairs, redundancy, betrayals and relationship breakdown. Other common reasons for seeking therapy are stress and overwhelm, low mood, or low self esteem.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a young adult I experienced mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety. I have been working with these over many years and bring this experience to help me understand and guide my work.
I am a full clinical psychotherapist (Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute) registered with the UKCP and counsellor accredited with the National Counselling Society (Accredited member).
I have been seeing clients from a wide variety of backgrounds since 2014

Additional information

For a long time, I have been aware that people on very low incomes find regular therapy out of their reach. In this sense therapy can be seen as largely for the well-off.

I would like to do something about this, and am introducing a 3 tiered pricing structure to allow for at least some diversity of income amongst people seeking therapy.

My aim is to invite those on higher incomes to pay a higher rate, which will hopefully not create hardship for them, but make them feel good about helping those on lower incomes access much needed therapy. Each session paid at a higher rate will directly offset the fee of someone receiving therapy at a reduced rate.

FEES:

Standard fee: £57 per session.

Equalising fee: £68-78 per session*. Please note there is no obligation to contribute beyond the standard fee.

Concessionary fee: £45 per session*.

* I have kept these rates as fee ranges to allow for flexibility. I will discuss each clients needs individually and aim to settle on a rate which fits their circumstances. I will not be 'means testing' anyone, this system will be based on honesty and trust.

The more people I see at the equalising rate, the more I can see at the reduced rate. If the day comes that I have more fees being paid at the higher rate than reduced rate clients I will either change my advertising to let more people know I offer reduced rate sessions, or rethink this approach. Either way I think it will be a day to celebrate!

Further information

I have a background in spiritual exploration, particularly the Non-Dual approach, which sees that we start life searching for ego solidity, but as we grow older we start to realise that our happiness is found in expanding our identity into something bigger than ourselves. We may not even see the shift happening, but we may begin letting go of power or control, or finding pleasure in sharing what we would have kept to ourselves before. We may not understand why we are behaving irrationally and uncharacteristically. In the therapy room understanding this transition helps to facilitate it rather than react against it. Painful experiences can be seen as opportunities to open up to this truth instead of pushing it away and thus allows an ever deeper healing.
