About me

I work with both individuals and couples to address: relationship issues, problems at work, depression, bereavement, anxiety, stress, anger, recovery from trauma, self-confidence, etc.

These and other difficulties are common. Often an individual or a couple can move forward with the help of friends and family. But sometimes it is more effective to seek the help of a counsellor or psychotherapist.

I also have a particular interest in working with writers and artists on a variety of issues including creative blocks, self-doubt, and anxiety.

I work face to face from a dedicated room in my flat in central Edinburgh. I also do some work online.

Currently (April 2024) I don't have any open spaces for therapy clients, although I do have some availability for counsellors/therapists seeking supervision.

Training, qualifications & experience

Transactional Analysis I have been studying and working with Transactional Analysis since 2002. I hold a Certificate in Transactional Analysis Counselling Theory and Skills and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling, both awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute (now known as Physis) in Edinburgh.

Narrative therapy I have completed Level 1 (2008) and Level 2 (2021) Narrative Therapy training. I continue to follow developments in Narrative Therapy and regularly attend the UK summer schools run by the Institute of Narrative Therapy.

Background I worked for a number of years as a university lecturer before moving into the voluntary sector and also training as a psychotherapist. I live and work in Edinburgh.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am also a member of The Society of Authors.

I attend regular personal therapy, training and development. I deliver workshops at therapy / counselling conferences once or twice a year.

I published on book on therapy – Talking It Better: from insight to change in the therapy room (PCCS Books) – in 2021.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
