About me

I am a qualified BACP Registered Counsellor, Psychosexual & Relationship Counsellor based in South West London. I provide short-term solution focus or long term counselling and my fees are: £ 50.00 low wage and £ 70.00 per individual for 50 minutes session and £ 100.00 for couple counselling.

I have accumulated over 20 years of experience working with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, depression, lack of interest/motivation, cultural conflicts, loss, bereavement, addictions, sexuality, HIV and relationship difficulties. I have worked in different settings as a Sexual Health Counsellor, a Group Facilitator and as a Senior Practitioner in residential settings in charitable foundations and I am currently working part time for the NHS in an IAPT service.

I draw upon a variety of theoretical approaches tailored to the client's needs as well as employing approaches such as motivational interview techniques, gestalt, cognitive behavioural therapy, existential, personal centred therapy, and solution focus therapy.

My approach always considers the influences of the past and how they have affected the individual's life experiences. I have worked extensively with clients with addictive issues and I apply existential and cognitive behavioural approaches to enable my clients to obtain positive results and outcomes. The decision to embark on a counselling experience may cause one to experience a sense of distress, confusion, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed. However, in my practice I create a safe and warm environment where I offer opportunities to confidentially explore these emotional and psychological feelings. My aim is to enable the client to reflect, clarify and work towards living in a more harmonious and resourceful way.

If you wish to access further information please feel free to contact me for a confidential discussion or to book an initial session.

Training, qualifications & experience

As part of my commitment to support the right of the expression of a healthy and holistic sexual life style, I have completed a post-graduate diploma training for Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy.

I am now able to provide counselling to individuals or couples addressing any sexual difficulties or conditions that support impaired sexual function.

In the past I have been working under different roles providing therapeutic support for 20 years. Beside my private practice, in South West London, I also work part time for the NHS in an IAPT service providing support to anyone with anxiety and depression.

My 3 years professional training was undertaken at the CSCT Central School of Counselling and Therapy in London where I gained a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Humanistic). I have also gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Cultural Diversity in Therapy and Counselling at Goldsmiths University of London and a Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy with the Middlesex University.

Experiences:
ADDICTION
I have considerable experience in supporting clients with addictive behaviour i.e. substance misuse, alcohol dependency, sex addiction or compulsive tendencies and consequences of these in their lives.

There are different ways of viewing and working with addictive behaviour and I subscribe to an holistic approach which enables me to negotiate how the individual wish to move forward, with or without the extra support and motivation offered by twelve steps programs.

I am able to adapt my method and approach with each client and discuss a way forward.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

At times of distress or facing a challenging situation it may be difficult to come to terms with the idea that perhaps talking to a counsellor would be the best option in finding a way forward in life. The task can be daunting especially if it's the first time one has considered to seek counselling. I advise my clients to take the first step by considering a meeting to discuss if counselling is the correct approach for them. There is extensive research that confirms that it is the quality of the relationship that make the experience useful rather than the experience or theoretical approach of the counsellor.

I believe people are able to move towards their desired goal as long as they are willing to be involved in the process and take responsibility for the choices they wish to make. I provide a space that allows the client to have time to get in touch with his or her own resources and importantly decide if they wish to work with me. Through this dialogue clients will then be able to decide what they wish to explore and resolve and the duration of the therapy. As Carl Rogers says: Freedom to be oneself is a frighteningly responsible freedom, and an individual moves towards it cautiously, fearfully, and with almost no confidence at first.
