It can be scary to think about starting counselling – that is perfectly normal. However, what is important is the therapeutic relationship that builds between counsellor and client. I hope to develop a good relationship with you by listening to you carefully and empathically and without judging you.
It will be up to you to decide how many sessions you need, although for short term therapy it is worth considering at least 10 sessions. Complex or long-standing issues may benefit from more time. Sessions will normally be at the same time on a weekly basis.
The counselling services I offer:
I work one to one with adults and young people and also offer relationship counselling for couples. I have specialist training and experience in adoption, alcohol issues and working with older people. I am able to help with a wide variety of issues including:
- relationship issues
- and other forms of mental distress.
I originally qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor; but prefer to work in a more integrative way according to what seems right for you. I can integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioural, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused and Sand tray therapies if this feels appropriate.
In addition to my own caseload, I work with clients on behalf of Barnardo's and am a member of Sussex Alcohol Counselling Service service. I am also employed by Brighton University as a sessional worker to offer counselling to students. Until recently, I managed a well-known charity's counselling service.
I have also worked at The Carers' Centre and understand the difficulties unpaid carers face.
Where I work:
I work in a lovely room in Peacehaven and a comfortable therapy room in Seaford, so please contact me to find the most convenient for you. Please see more information about my counselling rooms in 'Any further information' below.
