About me

The effectiveness of therapy is mainly based around the relationship between the therapist and client. Building trust can take time and so my aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental atmosphere within which you can explore whatever has brought you to therapy. In this way, what happens in your therapy is guided by you.

Every person comes with a unique blend of history and personality and in line with that I blend several different approaches to therapy (person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy) to support the work that we do together. I also acknowledge that we experience our feelings through our bodies and so work holistically with body, mind, and soul where is this appropriate. Sometimes simply being in relation with another person, where there is compassion and warmth, is enough to bring  about change, at other times it will take interventions, challenges and more introspective work to facilitate growth and development.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working with clients since 2012 in a variety of settings including a College, Community Counselling Centre and in Private practice. I have experience working with young people and adults, covering a wide range of issues.

My psychotherapeutic training has been 'Integrative' which means I  blend different approaches and consider different perspectives on the issues and clients I work with. This has been enhanced through my training at different Colleges and Universities and attending regular CPD events.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, my previous roles have included; College lecturing, careers advice, youth work and garden design.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
