Profile
I offer a 'come and try it' session for new clients so you can see how I work. If this is what you want, then I will ask you to pay for the session and we will decide what further sessions we may need. If not, I can suggest other practitioners.
About me:
I qualified as a Counsellor in 1991 and since then I have built up a practice as a therapist, supervisor and trainer specialising in working with clients experiencing relationship problems, suffering anxiety or depression, or the aftermath of traumatic events.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I am registered as a practitioner with the Psychology Service in Cambridgeshire.
In the field of traumatic stress, I have extensive experience of working with military personnel and their families, gained over 16 years in the Armed Forces and a further 20 years as a senior member of SSAFA Forces Help, a large ex-services charity. I am a former consultant for training in Counselling Skills at the Royal College of Defence Medicine in Birmingham.
I am a clinical supervisor for medical personnel working with cancer patients.
How I work as a Therapist:
I usually start by asking you to tell me a bit about yourself, your history and background, and the circumstances that have led you to come for counselling. We will then try to identify what the problems are and what we can do to improve things. I try to adapt my style to each individual client, which is why this first assessment interview is important. The number of sessions will depend on the nature of the problem.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Training and Experience:
I would describe my orientation as Integrative. I was trained initially in the Person Centred Approach, but then went on to be trained in Psychodynamic theory and practice, especially the work of Jung, Adler and Erikson. I am also trained as a practitioner in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, based on the work of Albert Ellis on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, and the ideas of Aaron Beck on anxiety disorders. I am trained to carry out Eye Movement Desentisisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), an approved treatment for Trauma.

2008 Completed EMDR Practitioner Training.
2000 Awarded Masters Degree (MSc) at Leicester University.
1999 Awarded Certificate in Supervision Skills.
