So Confusing … So many counsellors, with experience in different therapies ...which one is best for you ? Plus they deal with all these heavy issues and complicated conditions you may not relate to ...
All you know for sure is... "I think I would like to talk to someone who listens, doesn’t judge me or tell me what to do… doesn’t make me feel bad about myself and helps me to understand me… someone I can trust !! and I feel comfortable with"
How do you find that counsellor ? Honestly … trial and error – irrespective of experience and knowledge, the real ‘meeting of minds’ occur when a client and counsellor engage in what called a ‘therapeutic relationship’ – Do you feel able to open up and trust your counsellor ‘are they patient and let you go at your own pace ?
After all, you may feel you have enough demands in life already …
Am I that counsellor ? We don’t know, until we meet and have our first session, then you will know if you want to continue working with me. I am happy to meet you for an initial session – you can share as much or as little as you want, feel free to express your concerns about your life and I will answer any questions you may have about the counselling process. You can rest assured, I am qualified (see below), and work within the BACP Ethical Framework and am fully insured to practise.
So how do I work – I am an Integrative Counsellor – which means I can introduce different approaches in our work together – depending on what we agree might be useful or helpful. We work as a team, but you’re in charge … you decide, what is raised and discussed, you can wait until you’re comfortable in sharing with me your private emotions and thoughts. We can work together on what is important to you ‘right now’ and you might well find your priorities may change over time, as you discover what kind of future you want. You will have a confidential space to have your voice heard.
This is a journey, one we undertake in partnership – are you ready to take the first step?
If so contact me, to arrange an informal chat or to book our first session – then you decide if you would like us to continue working together...
