About me

You may have an idea where you want to go, or you might just know you want things to be different, and are unsure how. Counselling can help you work out the direction you want to go, and how to start heading there.

Counselling is...

Offering a warm, understanding approach, with an emphasis on genuineness and acceptance, creating a safe space to talk. Being able to share your distress with another can help lift its burden, and let you take a fresh look at your problems.

As a Gestalt Counsellor, I believe all people are born with the ability to lead full and rewarding lives. Sometimes however, we can get stuck, becoming unsure how to get going again. I see my role as offering a safe place to explore, understand, and develop new ways of responding to life's challenges.

At its heart, Gestalt is a healing conversation, which listens in a holistic way, and fosters ways of living a fuller life, more in touch with both ourselves and the relationships important to us.

I work with a wide range of issues, and have a specialist interest and experience in the following areas;

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • relationship issues
  • young people
  • bereavement and loss
  • anger management
  • trauma
  • self-harm
  • abuse
  • low self-esteem
  • learning disability
  • autism
  • and aspergers syndrome.

Who I See

I work one-to-one with adults, older adults and adolescents for both long and short term work, according to need.

Location

I work from a counselling room in a central location in Eastleigh, a few minutes walk from the train station, and close to local car parking.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced counsellor educated to degree level, BA (Hons), and a registered member of BACP (MBACP). I abide by their eithical code of practice. I am able to offer the reassurance of being CRB checked. My certificates can be viewed on request.

My Background

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked for over 20 years with learning disabled people in the NHS, the charity sector, and with Hampshire County Council. As well as general counselling experience, I have also counselled in an inner city school, and acted as Chair of client services for a local bereavement charity, which counsels people in their own homes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
