About me

I am an experienced therapist offering an exclusive setting for the provision of short and long term therapy for individuals and couples. This can be Anger, Anxiety and General Anxiety disorders. Also, feeling sad and depression as well as fears, phobias and trauma, and other negative thinking and behaviour challenges. All are increasingly prevalent in today's world.

Short-term counselling; using for example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Base Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). This is a solution-focused approach and is especially beneficial when addressing specific emotional and mental situations, such as the current mandatory isolation, to help deal with issues such as Anger Management, Relationship challenges, Generalised Anxiety Disorders and Panic disorders (including anticipatory anxieties such as fear of contamination from germs, agoraphobia or claustrophobia, the future etc.) as well as Fears and Phobias; Bereavement and Loss; sudden trauma and short-term Depression .

CBT offers a solution focused and structured approach to your individual circumstances. Together we look for unhelpful beliefs and behaviour and the cycle of negative thinking that we can't control and the subsequent physical sensations that occurs at these times. Looking at problems in this practical and systematic way allows you to look at your beliefs and thinking patterns and how these can be modified with the result that established patterns of behaviour are changed. You are helped to develop techniques to overcome your conflicts, such as .....

MBCT and Mindfulness is a stand alone practice in it's own right but very much compliments the CBT work. Many clients find it helps them bring their attention to the present time where they can see the problem clearly and act appropriately to the situation rather than responding with repetitive and automatic negative thinking and behaviour.

With longer term therapy we develop a close working relationship that aims to assist you in overcoming more deep seated problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Abuse, Eating disorders, Chronic Anxiety and Depression, Social and Behavioral difficulties, Relationship and Sexual issues; Chronic and debilitating Illnesses and many other situations.

I run Stress Relief and Well being groups, workshops and programs for the public and professional organisations. For more information on these and my services please visit my website at www.markpainecounselling.com

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
