I have 8 years experience of working with a wide range of clients including NHS, Local Authorities, Commercial, Public and Voluntary sectors. I am a BACP accredited and registered counsellor, I am the Director of a private counselling and therapy Service In Rochdale with an additional counselling room in Saddleworth. I support clients experiencing a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma and bereavement.
If you like to be genuinely listened to in a safe, accepting and confidential way whilst you address life's challenges please contact our office. We all sometimes need the support of others to help restore our life balance, live with traumatic experiences and reflect on our personal journey.
Counselling therapy sessions offer you the opportunity to gain awareness and insight that will help you to overcome painful thoughts and feelings, increase your self-confidence and enhance your ability to cope with difficult circumstances.
Talking to a trained counsellor can help you to look at problems from a different perspective and introduce you to different, effective ways to work through them, as well as giving you the opportunity to talk to someone other than friends or family, without embarrassment or fear of upset.
I provide a professional and ethical counselling service that is individually tailored to your own personal requirements, offering long-term therapy for enduring conditions or the opportunity to talk and 'offload' occasionally.
Your individual course of integrative therapy may include aspects of Person Centred Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I also offer EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) as a part of the integrative counselling session or alternatively as a single therapeutic approach. More information can be found below.
I originally trained as a nurse and worked for the NHS for over 12 years, before going on to retrain as a counsellor and therapist, I currently hold a 1st class honours degree in counselling with brief interventions and am a fully qualified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. Anxiety is usually a normal, useful and effective response in times of heightened stress which can be understood and resolved. Sometimes stress in your personal/ school or work life can cause severe fear, anxiety or worry. If you are experiencing this therapy can help further deterioration of the sufferer's situation.
Anxiety can be tormenting and destructive . It can prevent people from achieving their potential at work, in social situations, relationships or as a parent. It is one of the most common reasons for feeling unhappy with others often not understanding. If you are experiencing Anxiety you may be nervous about even ringing about help, this is totally normal. During any help you receive for anxiety you will be fully supported and given the space to heal at your own pace.
The Emotional Freedom Technique works really well for most suffers of anxiety, more information on this can be found below.
A serious but common condition: The lifetime risk of any individual person becoming depressed is around 17 percent, and most people have their first bout of depression in their late teens or early twenties. Some people become depressed after experiencing a trauma or stressful life change such as a separation or divorce, the death of a spouse, being laid off from a job, financial instability, relocation, or a decline in health. Everyday stressors and the presence of other psychological conditions, can also contribute to depression.
There are times when we all feel sad, hopeless or fed up. Depression is different. With depression these feelings don’t just go away. They can last for months, becoming so intense that carrying on with everyday life can become impossible. Depression can be hard to spot. There are many different symptoms, some emotional and some physical. If you think you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it might be time to talk to someone and visit your GP for help.
Counselling can be used to support to young adults to address and overcome developmental challenges, traumatic life experiences, anger, anxiety, negative self belief, self harm, issues around leaving home, university and much more in a safe and secure environment. At this time of life they are additionally coping with rapid physical, cognitive, sexual and emotional changes with existing mental health conditions diagnosed for the first time, adding to the stress.
Due to the sheer volume of changes that occur this age group often find it difficult to even talk to close family. At Mindsense Therapy a range of therapies are used and techniques are brought together to help during this time whilst the young person transitions into full adulthood.
The Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT is a way of healing based on the same principles that have been used for thousands of years in acupuncture—but without the needles. It has been shown to be successful for a wide range of emotional, health and performance issues. It often works where nothing else does through the release of positive energy around the body. EFT consists of tapping on acupressure points (See the chart below), whilst focusing cognitively on a problem. This is done with the therapist, fully clothed and at no point is the therapist required to touch the client. Your therapist will guide you by tapping their own pressure points and you will be required to repeat back certain words which focus on your problem. By accessing the energy meridians huge changes around beliefs and emotions can occur. Examples can be found online at Youtube etc. The basic tapping technique can be used at home but is not a substitute for being assisted by a professional. EFT is a modern and highly effective way to resolve your personal issues.
"EFT is a completely different approach to integrating the emotional therapy process and physical healing. I’ve seen astonishing results with EFT.”
EFT is available face to face, by telephone and skype for those who are unable to reach Mindsense Therapy in Rochdale. When you book your EFT session you will require a short telephone assessment and an EFT tapping chart will be forwarded for you to look at before you arrive.

For some people including myself (Marie) Bariatric Surgery can not only reduce health risks, existing conditions the need for medication it can bring about a happier, more exciting way of life. However for some clients surgery can result in a period of depression and anxiety especially post operatively. Common problems that arise include-
- Relationship issues
- Food hoarding post surgery
- Confusion around new eating habits
- The inability to eat to control emotions resulting in higher stress levels
- Letting go of past identities around size and weight
- Accepting a new body image
- Letting go of pre existing eating disorders
- Family attitudes
- Stigma and jealosy from others in relation to the surgery.
and the list goes on. In fact the month before and four months post surgery are very difficult. If you are considering this type of surgery we can provide individual support sessions specifically tailored to your requirements and delivered by a therapist who has undergone this type of surgery personally. Sessions will consist of a Cognitive behavioural therapy, Person Pentred counselling and Motivational interviewing.
