About me

My name is Marie Jones and I am a Counsellor/Psychotherapist working in a private practice based within Preston, Lancashire. I am also a Clinical Supervisor for trainee and qualified Counsellors.

It can take a while to pluck up the courage to visit a therapist, but it can be the biggest step you take to dealing with issues that may have been troubling you for some time.  I appreciate that can be an anxious and daunting step to take, so I aim to provide you with enough information to help you decide if therapy is the right choice for you.  It has to be your decision to talk and you shouldn't feel pushed into it.

Therapy takes place in a comfortable and supportive environment, in which you set the agenda. You will be listened to, accepted and respected regardless of what issues you bring. I will not judge you or tell you what to do, I will support you to work through any difficulties you may be experiencing and make any decisions that you feel are right for you.  Counselling is a form of "talk therapy" a process where an individual, couple or family meet with a trained professional to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives.  Professional Counselling is confidential and non-judgemental.

Counselling can help deal with issues that cause you distress or prevent you from living your life to its fullest. As a fully qualified MBACP Person-Centred psychotherapist, I can help you to explore your difficulties so that you can move forward in a more positive way. Together we can look at things from a fresh perspective and unpack the things that you are struggling with which will help you become more self-aware so that you can make informed choices and feel more in control. As a relational therapist I place much importance on the therapeutic relationship which can be immensely healing.

As you have chosen to look on my page I imagine you would like to change some aspects of your life or for them to be different. Therefore you are probably wondering if I - or therapy - can help you. You may be having negative feelings that overwhelming or experiencing anxiety, depression or anger, or you may be finding it a challenge to like yourself. Perhaps you are struggling with relationships and would like to work on ways to improve how you relate to people. Or you may be coming to terms with a trauma or a loss in your life and are looking to process your experience and see a way forward. Or perhaps you simply feel that something in your life is not quite right, even though that 'something' isn't clear yet.

People access therapy for all sorts of reasons including:

Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-harm, panic, unwanted thoughts, family and relationship problems, divorce, bereavement, past issues, childhood abuse, addiction, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, confidence issues….to name but a few.

However, some people don’t know why they are feeling the way they do and sometimes just don’t feel right. Therapy can help you to clarify what is going on and help you to feel in a more settled place.

I realise it can be hard to make that first move towards seeing a Counsellor and of course you need the right one to suit your needs. If you are unsure and feel it would be useful to have a chat first, then either give me a ring or send me your number and I can ring you. To get the most from the Counselling experience it is important to find the right person for your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

About Me

I have been counselling children, young people and adults for the last 13 years. My counselling approach is very much based on responding to the client’s needs. I will not judge you, I will accept and respect you, whilst being honest with you.  I aim to build a honest and trusting relationship, one where you will feel comfortable to discuss what is happening in your life.

I love what I do and feel very privileged that clients trust me with their inner most feelings and emotions. I have accessed Counselling myself over the years and believe that it has helped me to make sense of things and work through what has affected me. It is something that I believe in and feel passionate about and hope that this shows in the work that I do
