About me

Hello, my name is Mariana and I offer one-to-one, long and short term counselling from North West London.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space so that you feel supported and empowered to explore the concerns and dilemmas that have brought you to counselling. You may be facing a particularly difficult set of circumstances, trying to manage a trauma or a personal crisis. Perhaps life just feels anxiety-provoking, confusing or joyless. I work alongside my clients in a sensitive, thoughtful and compassionate way, mindful of the complexities and vulnerabilities that each individual brings. I am interested in you, your past, your present and your future.

In our work together, we might be working towards recognising and changing negative patterns of behaving, thinking or relating; exploring ways of improving communication or finding strategies for managing difficult situations; we may be unravelling a particularly entrenched sense of stuckness or working towards improved self-esteem. At all times, my goal is to support you in feeling more confident, more resilient and better equipped to make changes that will enhance the quality of your life.

My practice is based in peaceful and comfortable premises, very near to Finchley Road tube and easily accessible by public transport.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative counsellor with experience working with men and women of different ages and ethnicities. As an integrative practitioner, I am able to draw on different approaches and techniques that suit the person you are and the issues that you present with.

I have experience working across a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, coping with cancer and other physical illnesses, recovery from addition, low-self esteem, childhood sexual abuse and relationship problems. I worked for several years in a low-cost counselling service and more recently, in a cancer support charity where I provided one-to-one counselling, and facilitated a patient support group.

I have an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre. I am a registered member of the UKCP and abide by their ethical standards. I am on a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. Additionally, I am a registered member of BACP (MBACP) and work within their ethical framework.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
