Maria Oliveira MBACP
84 College Road
Welcome to my counselling directory page. My name is Maria and I am a qualified integrative counsellor. Meaning that I work with an amalgam of theories that I can apply to each client as my clients often come with complex range of issues I work with what theory/theories that may be appropriate for them on an individual level. I consider myself a warm person and open-minded counsellor, who places much focus on the working relationship between client and therapist. To unravel all of the layers of a personality I think it is important to establish trust in the partnership before moving on to deeper exploration of a client. I like my client to feel that I am with them, sat by their side, in order to achieve a non-judgmental environmental for them to open up. I also put focus on the client leading the session to suit their needs, as I understand that they will have the best knowledge about themselves and who they would like to become as a happy and whole human being.
I am also a NLP life coaching which I can integrate into the counselling work if the clients expresses that they would like to set goals and be guided towards reaching them. This work can be very helpful for people that are making big life changes for example in their career or branching out for personal reasons.
Futhermore, I am bilingual, I speak two languages Portuguese and English. My training was in secondary schools and addiction and therefore feel that I have specific expertise in these areas.
