Maria Kekki, BA MA Dip Counsellor and Psychotherapist
45 Central Street
The Mansel Road Centre
I offer contemporary psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and counselling in Central London and Wimbledon. I practice with a warm, relational approach, focusing on providing a safe space where we can think about the difficulties of life and explore alternative ways of being.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Certificate of Higher Education & Graduate Diploma) at Birkbeck, and am now in further training in Contemporary Psychoanalysis at the Site. I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist in various settings, including a GP Surgery in Barnet (NHS), Psychosis Intervention Service in Haringay (NHS), MIND Westminster, and the Wimbledon Guild. I have also worked as a group facilitator in the NHS as well as in Arbours Therapeutic Communities. In addition, I have also been part of the British Red Cross's Home from Hospital Service, as well as Refugee Services.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Anger management
- Carer support
- Domestic violence
- Eating disorders
- Hearing voices
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Passive aggressive behaviour
- Personality disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Pregnancy and birth
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I believe that philosophy has much to contribute to psychoanalysis, and am particularly interested in Gilles Deleuze's critique of psychoanalysis and the ideas he formulated around 'schizoanalysis'. I also feel that the 'anti-psychiatry' movement of the 1960's was an important turning point in psychoanalytic practice.
I offer a sliding scale according to income between 15-60 pounds.
