I am an accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist in south Bristol with a specialism in Gestalt- this focuses on understanding how issues affect your life in the present as well as previous patterns or history. Considering change can sometimes be difficult but also rewarding and speaking with someone objective like a therapist is often helpful. I offer warm, sensitive support adapted to your need and pace. My previous 30 years as an adult care social worker gave me a good grounding of many life experiences and relationships- so little surprises me but I am always open to learning. My aim is to support you to meet your own needs and find your own solutions at your pace. I believe that change is possible and together we work out what you need.
I work with many issues such as low self esteem/ confidence, bereavement or loss, anxiety, low mood, stress, work issues, long term relational patterns and many other life situations. We can work short term or long term, on specific issues or general.
My Availability I work weekdays and some evenings- if you have a specific need you can clarify my availability via email before considering making direct contact.
I welcome telephone contact to explore issues with no obligation as I find this a useful step in getting to know each other. You can email me to arrange telephone contact or ring direct and leave a short message if I am not there. This telephone introduction involves about 10 minutes to briefly check what you are looking for, what I may offer and then you decide whether you would like to come for a face to face first session.
The first session.
The first introductory session is at a reduced fee. We clarify your aims and I explain about how I may work with your issues. I always inform people they do not have to tell me everything in a first session- just enough to inform me about what you would like to work on. I also explain more about counselling, therapy and my practice. It is then up to you whether you book another session or have more time to think about your options.
We will clarify whether you want to work on a specific issue short term or continue long term. I always have a review after the first few weeks to check that we are on track for what you want. My personal style is warm and friendly to support you and develop how we work together. My job is to facilitate the process of counselling and therapy to enable exploration and working things out together. I consider you are very much a collaborator in this process. My aim is that when you finish your series of sessions you will feel more confident that you can manage your issues yourself.
