Mari Swain BSc (Hons) Dip Counselling MBACP
Hello, I am a warm, friendly qualified Counsellor from a Humanistic Perspective which encompasses Gestalt, Person Centered and Transactional Analysis. I have worked with clients with a variety of issues from anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, sexual abuse as children and as adults and people struggling with low self esteem and a lack of confidence. I also work mindfully and practice mindfulness myself. I particularly enjoy working with clients with anxiety as I have seen good results. Many people are too anxious to make that first step and book an appointment, but it's worth summoning up your inner strength to make an appointment to start fighting back against the restrictions of anxiety.
I have completed the Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents so am now opening up my practice to children and teens, helping young people with anxiety, bereavement, family problems, school and bullying issues. Anxiety is a growing issue amongst children and adults, thankfully it is something that can be worked on and reduced, with clients learning coping strategies that will work for them throughout life. I also work with clients on the spectrum to help them make sense of the World around them, as their take on life will be unique to them.
In my practice I have worked with a variety of issues, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, loss, addiction, family issues to name a few. I have a nice comfortable sunny room which is very relaxing, located near Castlepoint.
I was a volunteer counsellor for Rape Crisis and have worked extensively with men and women who have been sexually assaulted, raped and/or sexually abused as children. This was a rewarding area to work in, although obviously harrowing at times, it is heart-warming to watch people start to turn their lives around and to begin to let go of the negative emotions that may have been detrimental to their lives.
I have also trained as a Samaritan, which is different to telephone counselling, but is still very much about listening, empathising and being with someone whilst they work through the challenges of their life.
I offer face to face appointments for clients local to Bournemouth, I also offer online counselling and telephone counselling for any English speaking client across the World, with flexible appointment times to suit modern lifestyles and time differences. I offer a free half hour initial assessment. My fees are £28 for one hour's face to face counselling, discounts are available for people on a low income, students and trainee counsellors.
