M. Rita Brophy
Anahata Health Clinic
119-120 Edward Street
Hi I'm Rita and many thanks for visiting my profile. Searching online for a therapist is not always easy and finding one that feels right is a highly personal decision and one that can feel daunting. I am passionate about the value of therapy and believe it can help bring about posItive change to individuals' lives and my aim is to provide you with a safe and professional space in which we can work together to bring about those changes.
As a counsellor I feel proud to have have been part of some of the best counselling services in Brighton such as such Young People's Centre (13-24year olds), Age UK, (50+) and The Rock Clinic and Cruse Bereavement Services.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked with young people and children diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, and many other neurological conditions such as dyslexia, OCD, Tourette's and anxiety and ADHD. I also have personal experience being a carer.
I am an Integrative Therapist which means I draw on a variety of modalities - CBT, Phenomenology, Humanism, Gestalt, Buddhism, and psychodynamic theories - depending on the problem presented and what the client feels is best for them. I work from a person-centred perspective and also use techniques such as visualisation, mindful meditation and gestalt chair work.
How can counselling help me?
Sometimes thIngs happen in our lives which get in the way of us living fulfilling lives and prevent us from reaching our true potential. For example, you may have recently had a diagnosis of a condition or suffer from anxiety which is impacting on your relationships and behaviour; or perhaps your drinking has got out of control or you feel totally stressed from caring for others. Counselling can often provide that catalyst to change and can allow you to see your life from a different perspective.
How many sessions will I need?
It's very difficult to prescribe a time frame within which to work and it really depends upon the issue presented and the particular outcome desired. I can work with clients short term in a solution focussed way or long term and the choice is entirely up to the client and what best meets their needs.
